With an exhibition design by Vazio S/A and curated by Inhotim (Julieta González, with Douglas Freitas and Lucas Meireles), “The World is Man’s Theater” was inaugurated in November 2022 and will run until July 2023. The exhibition brings works by Jonathas de Andrade and the duo Barbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca, and develops around theatrical practice and social activism. The curatorial starting point is the legacy of the Negro’s Experimental Theater (TEN) by playwright Abdias Nascimento, and its influence on the Theater of the Oppressed, by playwright Augusto Boal.
The materiality of the expography is made up of two main elements: the facade screen rods used in civil construction (the translucent cloths) and the ocher-colored tarpaulin (used to define the dark space of the two projection rooms).
