285 Montevideo is an apartment building in Belo Horizonte both designed and developed by the office. It has a deviant floor with big windows, split levels, hanging planters, and “colonial” ceiling height of 3.5 meters, which was enabled by the maximum use of the permitted height. The balcony of the uneven story makes another reference to colonial architecture. The rooms and bedrooms face the morning sun and are protected by sunshades; and all seven apartments have different floor plans.
The shades and drainpipes that distinguish the façade are cheap materials here employed in a context averse to innovations – the local real estate market.
More than a project, the building is part of the office’s positioning, at the same time practical and experimental, which was only possible due to our dual role as architects and developers.
